Adaptive and Assistive Technology
Just because a child has a disability does not mean he or she cannot perform to the maximum as a child who does not have a disability. Each child should have equal opportunity. Through programs like assistive technology students can start off the right way in the morning by simply being able to get to school with an electric wheelchair. There are many forms of technology that are made to make daily tasks for people with a disability easier. Some examples of assistive technology are adapted keyboards, word predictors, and communication software. Assistive Technology can be simply thought of as any piece of equipment that helps improve a person with a disability. Adaptive Technology is what makes assistive technology work. Adaptive technology is the hardware or software that goes into making that specialized equipment work. Through assistive and adaptive technology people with disabilities have the opportunity to do actives that they cannot do on their own. Assistive and adaptive technology can help change lives.
